Who is Ammu Fisal?

Fisal Hammouda was born in Cairo, Egypt. He received a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Cairo University, in addition to a Masters Degree in Engineering Mechanics from Wichita State University in Kansas. Also, Ammu (Uncle) Fisal has studied under many scholars of Islam from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, India, and Pakistan. He immigrated into the US in 1969 and has been active in the community since then.

In 1970 he single-handedly organized a fund-raising dinner at Wichita State for the benefit of the school’s football team; all of the team's members had died in a plane accident. With only a few families, he led and executed the event from inception to completion. That included the printing of tickets and selling them door to door, the cooking of the food including baking the bread and the pastry, the entertainment program, and of course, the clean up. The event was attended by over 500 people, including the University President and community leaders. He was interviewed by local and national newspapers and TV stations.

Although he has held responsible positions in several of the top corporations in America, including Fluor Daniel, Raytheon, Combustion Engineering, Ralph M. Parsons, and others, and is himself the founder and president of Creative Engineering Company, he is most known throughout the US as one of the most energetic, motivating, and invigorating speakers--in his capacity as teacher, fund raiser, counselor, and Muslim worker, particularly with giving sermons, Ammu has dazzled and inspired thousands of people, many of whom number among the youth of our country.

For over 30 years Ammu Fisal has worked closely with many organizations, including ICNA Relief, Gujarat Life, Kashmir Islamic Relief, and others, and has collaborated on many occasions with African American and Hispanic community groups. He has also been a Keynote Speaker at many events, conventions, camps, and workshops including: ISNA, MYNA, MSA, MAYA, MAS, ICNA, and BIC.

During the Bosnian Crisis in the early nineties, Mr. Hammouda organized two of the largest events in the recent history of the Greater Chicago Area, both of which were in support for the victims of Milosevic's barbarian campaign of ethnic cleansing in the state of Bosnia. The first was attended by more than 2,500 people, and the second by more than 2,000. Many high-ranking politicians attended the events, including Congressman Henry Hyde. Both events were concluded by fund raising.

Ammu Fisal is also the father of three and the grandfather of one. Please take this opportunity to go to our Invite page to ask Ammu Fisal to visit your community today! We also appreciate comments in our guestbook pertaining to this site or to the Ammu Fisal Foundation itself.
